Olivier Fillion nommé Entraîneur-chef / Head Coach

Olivier Filion est originaire de Saint-Sauveur, au Québec, mais a passé la majeure partie de sa vie à voyager pour jouer au hockey. Repêché en deuxième ronde de la Ligue de hockey junior majeur du Québec par les Titans d’Acadie Bathurst, il a joué quatre ans dans la LHJMQ et demeure le meilleur marqueur de tous les temps pour les Titans. Il a ensuite participé à des camps d’entraînement de la LNH et de la LAH et a joué au hockey professionnel pendant dix ans pour des équipes du monde entier.

Olivier a commencé sa carrière d’entraîneur en tant qu’entraîneur adjoint avec les Mavericks du Missouri dans la Central Hockey League. Il a également été entraîneur-chef de la LNAH à Québec avant de décider que sa passion n’était pas seulement d’entraîner le hockey, mais d’enseigner le jeu à la prochaine génération de joueurs de hockey d’élite. Il a eu la chance d’entraîner une équipe Midget AA à Sainte-Agathe, au Québec, pour devenir l’équipe numéro un de la province et cela a solidifié son objectif de revenir au jeu en tant qu’entraîneur. Son premier arrêt a été d’établir le programme de hockey de l’école préparatoire à Newbridge Academy, où il a passé trois ans, avant de relever le défi d’aider Mount Academy à devenir l’une des meilleures écoles préparatoires de l’Est du Canada au cours des 4 dernières années. Olivier, est bien épaulé dans ce parcours avec sa femme Alysha, et leurs trois filles – Alexys (22 ans), Gabrielle (15 ans) et Emily (9 ans).

“Je suis vraiment excité à l’idée d’être le premier entraîneur-chef des West Kent Steamers. Après avoir passé les 8 dernières années au niveau de l’école préparatoire, je sais ce qu’il faut pour construire une équipe performante qui joue de la bonne manière. Notre équipe sera amusante à regarder et difficile à affronter. Je suis excité et prêt à relever le défi. La première fois que je suis entré dans l’aréna JK Irving à Bouctouche, j’ai su qu’une équipe de hockey junior avait sa place ici. C’est une grande communauté et je sais qu’ils soutiendront notre équipe de hockey. Nous serons impliqués dans la communauté et, plus important encore, nos joueurs seront des modèles pour nos jeunes fans.

Je construirai une fondation où les joueurs se responsabiliseront mutuellement et viendront à la patinoire avec le désir de s’améliorer chaque jour. Je veux que West Kent soit l’une des meilleures destinations pour que les jeunes athlètes continuent de se développer tout en jouant dans une excellente ligue de hockey junior.

The West Kent Steamers are very happy to announce Olivier Filion as our Head Coach and assistant General Manager. For the past 4 years, Olivier has been the Hockey Director for all 6 teams and Head Coach of the U17 male team at Mount Academy. Olivier has a proven track record that he is able to build a program to develop athletes and promote them to the next level. Twenty-two of his players were drafted in the QMJHL during the past 4 seasons and more than 30 player are playing Junior A hockey across Canada with the goal of playing University hockey one day.

Olivier Filion is originally from Saint-Sauveur, Quebec, but has spent most of his life traveling to play hockey. Drafted in the second round of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League by the Acadie Bathurst Titans, he went on to play four years in the QMJHL and is still the all-time leading scorer for the Titans. He then went on to attend NHL and AHL training camps and played professional hockey for ten years for teams from all over the world.

Olivier began his coaching career as a Player Assistant Coach with the Missouri Mavericks in the Central Hockey League. He was also head coach in the LNAH in Quebec before deciding that his passion was not only to coach hockey, but to teach the game to the next generation of elite hockey players. He was given the chance to coach a Midget AA team in Sainte-Agathe, Quebec to become the number one team in the province and that solidify his goal to return to the game as a coach. His first stop was to establish the prep school hockey program at Newbridge Academy, where he spent three years, before taking on the challenge to help Mount Academy become a top Prep School in Eastern Canada for the past 4 years. Olivier, is well supported in this journey with his wife Alysha, and their three daughters- Alexys (22), Gabrielle (15) and Emily (9).

After spending the last 8 years at the Prep School level, I know what it takes to build a successful team that plays the right way. Our team will be fun to watch and hard to play against. I am excited and ready for the challenge.

The first time I walked in the JK Irving arena in Bouctouche I knew that a junior hockey team belonged here. It’s a great community and I know they will support our hockey team. We will be involved in the community and, most importantly, our players will be role models to our young fans.

I will build a foundation where players will keep each other accountable and come to the rink with the desire of getting better everyday. I want West Kent to be one of the best destinations for young athletes to keep developing while playing in a great junior hockey league.”
